Professor Sadiq Gombe, the National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has called for the immediate resignation of Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila. This demand follows ongoing turmoil regarding the budgetary and operational conduct of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC). Speaking in Abuja after a party executive meeting, Gombe argued that Gbajabiamila should vacate both his role as Chief of Staff and his position as committee chair to allow for an impartial investigation into the serious allegations against him.
Gombe further criticized the administration for appointing Gbajabiamila to lead a committee tasked with harmonizing state police policy while these accusations remain unresolved. He highlighted concerns regarding the composition of this 12-member panel, noting that nine members hail from the same region, which he believes undermines national unity and sensitivity to diversity. He emphasized that the government must demonstrate integrity if it wishes to be taken seriously on both national and international stages.
Femi Olaniyi, Chairman of the SDP State Chairmen, also expressed deep disappointment, suggesting that the current administration has lost its direction. While Olaniyi declined to provide further details on the PFIPC case due to active litigation, he urged SDP members to begin grassroots preparations for the 2027 general elections immediately. He called for a focus on local organizing, voter mobilization, and strengthening party structures at the ward and LGA levels to ensure the party remains a viable alternative for the Nigerian public.
