The Plateau State Police Command has issued a strict directive forbidding officers from conducting unauthorized searches of citizens’ mobile devices. State Commissioner of Police, Bassey Ewah, issued this warning during a meeting with officers in Jos.
Police spokesperson Alfred Alabo announced the directive in a Thursday statement, noting that no officer has the legal right to inspect a civilian’s phone on the street without a valid court warrant. Ewah emphasized that the command remains dedicated to professional standards and will not tolerate misconduct.
Residents are encouraged to calmly refuse any illegal requests for phone inspections and to lodge formal complaints at a local police station.
