Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has voiced his profound distress regarding the recent murder of Alhaji Ardo Risku, the Benue State chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), along with an associate. In an official message released by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, the governor noted that this violent event occurs during a period of recovering stability throughout the region.
Governor Alia described the assassination as a calculated strike against the reconciliation efforts and peacebuilding initiatives prioritized by his government. He expressed frustration that the attack took place shortly after security discussions were held. According to the governor, harming any leader engaged in peace efforts threatens the progress achieved through dialogue between local groups.
Authorities have been instructed to conduct a rigorous and immediate inquiry into the incident. The governor demanded that security forces identify the attackers and ensure they face legal consequences to prevent further unrest. He further advised the MACBAN leadership and the wider public to maintain composure and avoid reactionary violence. Emphasizing his administration’s commitment to progress, Governor Alia stated that the state will not be deterred by those who benefit from social disruption. He concluded by offering his sympathies to the family of the deceased and the MACBAN organization.
