Pogacar Secures Dominant Tourmalet Victory as Yellow Jersey Traeen Withdraws

Tadej Pogacar has reclaimed the Tour de France yellow jersey after a powerful mountain victory, while overnight leader Torstein Traeen exits the race following a serious crash.

Tadej Pogacar moved closer to securing his fifth Tour de France title, tying a long-standing historical record, following an impressive win on stage six. The 27-year-old Slovenian reclaimed the overall leader’s yellow jersey after a commanding performance on the Col du Tourmalet, the race’s inaugural major mountain stage.

During the 186.2km trek from Pau to Gavarnie-Gedre, the UAE Team Emirates-XRG rider accelerated five kilometers before the summit. This surge allowed him to finish two minutes and 38 seconds ahead of his primary rival, Jonas Vingegaard. Other contenders, including Remco Evenepoel and Paul Seixas, fell further behind.

The race saw a tragic turn for the previous yellow jersey holder, Norwegian rider Torstein Traeen. After suffering a heavy fall on a hairpin bend, medical assessments confirmed he sustained a concussion and multiple rib fractures, forcing his withdrawal from the competition. Pogacar now leads the general classification by two minutes and 42 seconds over Vingegaard, with Isaac del Toro trailing in third place.
