Welsh singing sensation Bonnie Tyler has died at age 75, prompting heartfelt tributes from Catherine Zeta-Jones, the Prince of Wales, and other music industry peers.

Iconic Welsh singer Bonnie Tyler has passed away at 75. Known for her powerful voice and global hits like Total Eclipse of the Heart and Holding Out for a Hero, the singer died unexpectedly in a Portuguese hospital following complications from an illness she had been receiving treatment for.

Actress Catherine Zeta-Jones led the outpouring of grief, describing her immense sadness at the loss of a unique artist who she noted was also remarkably humorous. Tyler was married to Robert Sullivan, who is a cousin of Zeta-Jones, for over five decades. The actress famously requested Tyler to perform at her 2000 wedding to Michael Douglas.

The Prince of Wales honored the late star, calling her a proud Welsh icon whose legendary voice influenced countless listeners. Other prominent figures, including Sir Cliff Richard, Shakin’ Stevens, and Bryan Adams, shared memories of her vibrant personality and professional legacy. Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer also praised her enduring impact on the music industry.

Born Gaynor Hopkins in Skewen, Wales, Tyler rose to international fame in the late 1970s. She broke records as the first Welsh artist to secure a number one hit in the United States with her 1983 anthem, Total Eclipse of the Heart. Throughout her career, she received multiple Grammy nominations and was awarded an MBE in 2023 for her services to music. Recently, she had been recovering from emergency intestinal surgery, but her family confirmed she sadly succumbed to her health struggles.
