Three PDP Lawmakers Defect To APC Amid Party Crisis
Three members of the House of Representatives, two from Osun State and one from Edo have officially dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Taofeek Ajilesoro and Omirin Emmanuel Olusanya, both representing Osun, alongside Marcus Onobun from Edo, announced their defection in letters addressed to Speaker Tajudeen Abbas. The Speaker read the letters aloud during Wednesday’s plenary session.
The lawmakers cited “irreconcilable divisions” within the PDP as the reason for their decision to cross over to the ruling party.
Their defection was further affirmed by the presence of APC’s National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Bashiru, who was in the chamber during the announcement, a clear show of support from the party’s top brass.
In response, Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda called on the Speaker to declare the seats of the defectors vacant, arguing that the Constitution forbids such cross-party movements without legitimate proof of factional crises within their original political platform.
