5.3-Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Greece Near Crete and Antikythera
A 5.3-magnitude earthquake rocked Greece on Wednesday, sending tremors through the region between the islands of Crete and Antikythera.
The quake occurred at 4:26 p.m. local time, with Greece’s Geodynamic Institute reporting its epicentre roughly 13 miles off the coast of Antikythera. The seismic event had a focal depth of approximately 36 miles.
Residents on Crete, in the Peloponnese peninsula, and parts of Attica reported feeling the quake, though no injuries or damage have been reported so far.
This seismic activity follows a 4.6-magnitude earthquake that struck the Italian city of Naples and its surrounding areas just five days earlier. Locals there described hearing a “roar” and experiencing a noticeable tremor around 9:15 a.m. last Friday.
