NDLEA Officer Fatally Shot During Drug Raid In Ondo Town

Tragedy struck in Ondo Town on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, when a National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) operative, identified simply as Jide, was gunned down during a sting operation targeting suspected drug traffickers.

The raid took place in the early hours at a residence in the Ita’nla area of Ondo, the headquarters of Ondo West Local Government Area, following credible intelligence about narcotics allegedly concealed in the building’s ceiling.

According to a source, the NDLEA team stormed the apartment and began searching for the drugs. While some officers entered the house to retrieve the suspected narcotics, Jide remained outside on guard duty.

Tragically, he was ambushed by unknown gunmen believed to be part of the drug syndicate. They shot him in the neck before fleeing the scene. Though rushed to the hospital, Jide was declared dead upon arrival.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, SP Olayinka Ayanlade, said four suspects have been arrested in connection with the attack. A single-barrel firearm was recovered from the suspects.

He added that investigations are ongoing in collaboration with the NDLEA, and all individuals involved in the killing will be brought to justice.
