US President Donald Trump has announced plans to deploy 200 American troops from the Middle East to assist Israel and oversee the implementation of the Gaza peace agreement.

The move follows Israel’s cabinet approval of a deal brokered to secure the return of the remaining hostages held in Gaza. Under the agreement, a ceasefire will begin within 24 hours of the cabinet’s decision, and Israeli forces will pull back to a designated line inside the territory. Hamas is expected to release both living and deceased hostages within 72 hours after the truce takes effect. In return, Israel will free 250 Palestinians serving life sentences and 1,700 detainees held since the October 7 conflict.

Trump announced his intention to travel to the Middle East on Sunday to mark the launch of the peace process and witness the hostage release. According to US officials, American soldiers will work alongside allied forces, NGOs, and private sector groups as part of a team ensuring the truce is upheld.

US Central Command will establish a civil-military coordination center in Israel to manage humanitarian aid and oversee logistical and security operations. The troops will remain outside Gaza and focus on monitoring the ceasefire and supporting the territory’s transition to civilian governance. The unit will include experts in logistics, security, transportation, planning, and engineering.

Initial personnel have already arrived in the region, with additional forces expected over the weekend to begin setting up the coordination hub.

At the White House, Trump declared that the deal between Israel and Hamas “has ended the war in Gaza.” He also emphasized that no Palestinians would be forced to leave the territory under the 20-point peace plan that shaped the negotiations in Egypt.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened his security cabinet to approve the framework after Hamas agreed to the proposal and welcomed an end to the two-year war. Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner participated in the Israeli government meeting.

Netanyahu’s office confirmed, “The government has now approved the framework for the release of all the hostages – both living and deceased.”
