The Nigeria Police Force is mourning the loss of 10 officers who died during an intense firefight with suspected bandits in the Sakaba area of Kebbi State. Force spokesperson CSP Ani Iniedu confirmed on Tuesday that the incident occurred Monday morning near the Rafin Makuku axis.
The confrontation began at 9:25 a.m. as police intercepted a group of armed suspects traveling between Zamfara and Kebbi. During the battle, 17 bandits were neutralised and four of their motorcycles were destroyed. Two civilians were also killed, and two police officers sustained injuries requiring medical treatment.
Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu expressed deep sadness over the tragedy, honoring the victims for their sacrifice while serving the nation. The bodies of the deceased officers have been moved to Birnin Kebbi.
Authorities have brought the region under control and dispatched additional security forces to hunt down the surviving attackers. The police leadership promised ongoing support for the affected families and vowed to track down all individuals involved in the assault.
