Suspected militants from the Islamic State West Africa Province, known as ISWAP, have killed four soldiers in an ambush within Borno State. Details of the assault were shared on Thursday by Brant Philip, an expert in African jihadist movements, via his X account.
The offensive took place on August 6 on the route between Yamtake and Bitta. Beyond the four fatalities, numerous other troops suffered injuries during the skirmish. The attackers incapacitated three military vehicles and seized various weapons and ammunition from the scene. Images depicting the deceased soldiers were circulated alongside reports of the engagement.
Official military sources have not yet validated this specific event. Separately, the military reported on Tuesday that troops from Operation Hadin Kai successfully defended a base in the Gajiram area of Nganzai against an ISWAP incursion. During that conflict, Capt. Mohammed Goni, acting as the information officer for the operation, confirmed that soldiers sustained injuries while eliminating an undisclosed number of terrorists.
