On Thursday evening, approximately 14 individuals were kidnapped while traveling by commercial bus from Enugu to Abuja. The incident occurred near the Ankpechi–Omutele area in Benue State’s Ohimini Local Government Area, where armed assailants intercepted the vehicle and forced the passengers into the nearby forest.
DSP Orchia Peter Aondongu, representing the Benue State Police Command, confirmed that authorities have already successfully rescued five of the captives, including a young child. During the rescue mission, an exchange of fire took place between officers and the kidnappers. One rescued person suffered a gunshot injury and is presently recovering at a medical center in Otukpo.
Nine people remain missing. The Benue State Police Commissioner, Cletus Nwadiogbu, has stated that law enforcement is working with other security agencies to find the remaining victims while prioritizing their safety. The command has requested that the public stay alert and share any relevant information that might support the rescue efforts.
