Prince Harry Secures Review Of UK Police Protection After Renewed Safety Concerns
Prince Harry has reportedly won a significant breakthrough in his long-running battle over police protection in the UK, following a successful request for a Home Office security review.
The Duke of Sussex had written directly to the Home Secretary, Shabana Mahmood, requesting a fresh risk assessment after facing security concerns during his visit to Britain in September. In response, the Home Office ordered a review of the earlier decision that removed his 24-hour armed police protection after he stepped back from royal duties.
According to a report by The Sun, this marks the first time in six years that the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (RAVEC) has agreed to reconsider its stance on Prince Harry’s security arrangements.
If the review is ruled in his favour, it could open the door for his children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, to finally meet their grandfather, King Charles, in person.
Prince Harry has previously expressed deep anger over the sudden withdrawal of his security detail, stating that he remained a high-risk royal and was removed from protection “overnight” after choosing to live independently from the royal family.
Following the loss of his legal appeal against the Home Office in May, Harry described the entire process as an “establishment stitch-up” during a BBC interview. He also suggested the dispute contributed to a prolonged breakdown in communication with King Charles, though they reunited briefly in September after nearly two years of no contact.
Two separate security breaches during his recent UK visit reportedly prompted Harry’s latest appeal to the government.
A government spokesperson reiterated that the UK’s protective security system remains “rigorous and proportionate,” adding that specific details would not be disclosed for safety reasons.
The review is still ongoing, with an official decision expected next month.
