Police rescue 11 abducted travellers after fatal Zamfara attack

Authorities in Zamfara successfully rescued 11 kidnapped commuters following a deadly ambush on the Gummi–Sokoto road that left one person dead.

A violent assault by armed bandits on the Gummi–Sokoto Road in Zamfara State resulted in one fatality and the abduction of several passengers. The incident unfolded on Tuesday morning at approximately 10:30 a.m. when gunmen intercepted a truck carrying both vegetables and commuters.

DSP Yazid Abubakar, the state police spokesperson, confirmed that the attackers fired upon the vehicle, forcing it to crash. Authorities identified the victim who died at the scene as Dan Fati Umar, a resident of Gidan Ganja in the Bukuyum Local Government Area. Another individual remains hospitalized with severe injuries.

While the assailants initially seized an unknown number of captives, security forces launched an immediate operation that led to the successful rescue of 11 victims. They have since been returned to their loved ones.

Police Commissioner Ahmad Muhammad Bello expressed his sympathies to the family of the deceased. He emphasized that the police force remains dedicated to state security and requested that local residents continue to cooperate by reporting suspicious activities.
