Seventeen relatives of members associated with Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad have turned themselves in to the Nigerian military’s Operation Hadin Kai in Borno State. Captain Muhammed Goni, the Acting Military Information Officer, confirmed the development on Wednesday.
According to the military, 16 individuals surrendered in the Konduga area, while one child turned themselves in at Bama. The group, which includes 10 women and seven children in total, is currently being processed and questioned by authorities.
The surrender occurred on August 4, 2026. A group of 16 people emerged during a patrol by the 222 Battalion near Gezuwa, while an 11-year-old surrendered later that day to the 202 Battalion. Officials noted that 92,000 Naira was found with the first group. The individuals cited constant military pressure on insurgent strongholds as the primary reason for their decision to leave the terrorist group.
