The Nigerian government has ordered a significant upgrade to the Tactical Training Ground and Obstacle Course belonging to the Federal Capital Territory Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). This directive, announced during the facility’s commissioning in Abuja, aims to bolster the operational capabilities and professional readiness of the agency.
Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, represented by Commandant General Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, emphasized that the project signifies a strategic investment in the future of the Corps. Audi confirmed that the facility will be elevated to match the high standards found in elite training schools. This effort is part of a broader strategy to ensure the agency remains capable of tackling evolving security threats, such as banditry, oil theft, and cybercrime.
Audi highlighted the importance of inter-agency cooperation, advocating for a framework based on collaboration, cooperation, and coordination to address asymmetric conflicts effectively. He praised FCT Commandant Dr. Olusola Odumosu for the initiative, noting that the training ground will facilitate essential drills, including rescue simulations and tactical movements.
Dr. Odumosu noted that the project was designed to sharpen the endurance and discipline of personnel, ensuring they are better equipped to protect the residents of the nation’s capital. He encouraged officers to utilize the training space to develop the resilience needed for complex security operations. Throughout the event, leadership reaffirmed their commitment to officer welfare, emphasizing that professional training is critical to safeguarding the lives and property of Nigerians.
