Peter Obi Demands Tinubu’s Resignation Over N8.83 Trillion Unbudgeted Spending Allegations

Peter Obi has called for President Tinubu’s resignation, citing an IMF report that uncovered N8.83 trillion in unbudgeted government expenditures.

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, has launched a sharp critique against President Bola Tinubu, alleging that the current administration is facilitating massive corruption. Obi pointed to an International Monetary Fund (IMF) report indicating that N8.83 trillion in spending was excluded from the 2025 budget, effectively bypassing parliamentary oversight and standard financial controls.

In a statement released on social media, the former Anambra State governor noted that this unaccounted sum equals roughly two percent of the national GDP. He highlighted that the figure represents over 35 percent of the total 2025 capital budget and exceeds the combined federal allocations for the healthcare and education sectors. Obi argued that these funds could have been redirected to build essential infrastructure, boost cottage industries, and create significant employment opportunities for Nigerian graduates.

Obi characterized the lack of financial accountability as evidence of a systemic pattern of mismanagement within the All Progressives Congress leadership. He warned that the administration’s refusal to follow public finance protocols threatens national stability and exacerbates existing poverty. Citing these concerns as proof of incompetence and a lack of empathy, Obi reaffirmed his previous demand for President Tinubu to resign from office.
