He faces pressure to prove he can represent regions beyond his base in the north-west of England.
The shift toward decentralizing power from Westminster is central to Burnham’s early messaging. In a late June address in Manchester, the Makerfield MP advocated for providing greater authority to areas facing industrial change, specifically naming Port Talbot, Scunthorpe, and Aberdeen.
