NAFDAC Alerts Nigerians to Beware of Counterfeit Cialis Tablets
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a public warning about the circulation of counterfeit Cialis 20mg tablets in Nigeria.
In a statement, NAFDAC revealed that the fake version of the medication was uncovered during a routine market surveillance exercise by the Marketing Authorization Holder’s (MAH) field representatives in Abuja.
According to the agency, the counterfeit tablets are being sold openly in local markets for around ₦8,000 per pack, far below the ₦55,000 retail price of the genuine product. Investigations further showed that the packaging and quality of the fake drug were inconsistent with those of the original Cialis 20mg tablets.
NAFDAC explained that authentic Cialis 20mg contains tadalafil, a drug used for treating erectile dysfunction (ED) and pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) in men.
The agency urged healthcare professionals and consumers to immediately report any suspected cases of substandard or falsified medicines to the nearest NAFDAC office, call 0800-162-3322, or email sf.alert@nafdac.gov.ng.
