Military Forces Dismantle Kidnapping Ring and Seize Ransom Funds in Imo

Military forces in Imo State arrested a kidnapping suspect and recovered ransom cash and a getaway vehicle following an intelligence-led operation.

Soldiers from the 34 Artillery Brigade, working alongside local security forces under Operation Udoka, successfully dismantled a kidnapping network in Imo State. The mission, executed on July 17, 2026, resulted in the capture of a key suspect and the confiscation of items used for criminal activities.

Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Ayeni, representing the Army, stated that a precision raid in Obinwanne Umuaka, Njaba Local Government Area, was launched after authorities received reliable intelligence. During a sweep of the area, personnel found a bag abandoned in the brush that had been used for ransom deliveries.

Subsequent investigation led to the arrest of a man at his home. Inside the residence, soldiers located a black Lexus saloon car, various mobile devices, identification papers, and 298,200 Naira, which is believed to be a portion of the ransom money. The victim of the abduction positively identified the suspect as a participant in the crime. Initial reports suggest the individual facilitated the kidnapping by providing his vehicle and accepting a portion of the illicit earnings.

The detainee and all collected evidence have been transferred to the Department of State Services. Officials are now working to track down remaining syndicate members, including the primary leader who is currently fleeing. This operation highlights the success of intelligence-driven tactics and inter-agency cooperation in suppressing violent criminal activity across the South-East region.
