Law enforcement officers in Sokoto State successfully pushed back an armed gang that targeted Tauma Village in the Bodinga Local Government Area. The confrontation occurred on July 25 around 8:30 p.m. after local authorities received an urgent alert from a community member.
DSP Ahmed Rufai, the spokesperson for the Sokoto State Police Command, confirmed that the Divisional Police Officer gathered a tactical force, consisting of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and the Violence Crime Response Unit, to handle the situation. The resulting shootout forced the criminals to abandon their mission and retreat into the nearby wilderness.
During a post-incident sweep of the area, authorities discovered five loaded rifle magazines containing 40 rounds of live ammunition that the assailants left behind. No casualties were reported among the civilians or the responding officers. Currently, the police have increased patrols in the vicinity to maintain stability and prevent future threats. Local medical facilities and residents have been alerted to watch for individuals arriving with gunshot injuries, as officers in surrounding districts remain on high alert.
