The Lagos State Government has announced an eight-hour road closure and traffic diversion ahead of the Lagos City Marathon, set for Saturday, February 15, 2025.

State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, stated in a release on Tuesday, February 11, that the marathon will take place from 5:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

The race will begin at the National Stadium in Surulere, following these routes: Ikorodu Road towards Anthony (Bertola), Gbagada to the Third Mainland Bridge, then Inbound Lagos Island via Dolphin Road, Alfred Rewane Road, Falomo Roundabout, and Bourdillon Road.

Runners will cross the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge to Admiralty Way, continue along Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue, Akin Adesola, and Ahmadu Bello Way, before concluding at Eko Atlantic.

To ensure safety and control access, concrete barriers will be used to block adjoining roads, junctions, and intersections along the race corridor. Traffic management officials from LASTMA, NPF, FRSC, LSNC, and LAWMA will be deployed at key locations.

He stated that the following alternative routes have been designated to facilitate smooth traffic flow during the marathon:

From Ikeja: Take Ikorodu Road/Funsho Williams Avenue, connect to Eko Bridge, and continue through Outer Marina.

From Badagry/Mile 2: Travel through Apapa via Orile, connect to Eko Bridge, and proceed along Outer Marina.

From Surulere: Take the Iponri/Iganmu route to connect Eko Bridge and continue to Outer Marina.

From Lagos-Ibadan Expressway (Mowe and environs): Use the Ojota Slip Road, merge onto Ikorodu Road, and proceed via Funsho Williams Avenue to Eko Bridge.

From Okota: Take the Mile 2/Orile route, then connect to Eko Bridge and continue to Outer Marina.

From Sango-Otta: Travel through Mushin, connect to Funsho Williams Avenue, and continue to Eko Bridge.

From Epe-Lekki Expressway (Ajah and nearby areas): Take Marwa Junction, link Admiralty Way, and cross the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge.

From Lagos Island: Redirect to Apongbon Bridge, then proceed via Eko Bridge to Costain Roundabout, Iponri, and Bode Thomas.

Alternative Route: Drive through Victoria Island, connect to Independence Bridge, then follow Apongbon to Ijora-Olopa and Herbert Macaulay Road.

The Third Mainland Bridge will be closed to traffic heading towards Lagos Island but will remain accessible for motorists traveling to the Mainland.

Osiyemi assured residents that traffic management officials would be deployed to reduce disruptions and encouraged the public to plan their journeys in advance by using alternative routes and other transportation options.

He appealed for patience, emphasizing that the partial and total road closures are necessary as part of the traffic management plans for the 10th Edition of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon.
