“From 2K to 6K” Trends on X as Telco Raises Tariff

Nigerians have taken to X to express frustration after discovering that mobile operators have raised their tariffs.

This sudden increase caused several popular telecom providers to trend on the platform.

Many users lamented that an internet bundle previously priced at N2,000 for 15GB of data now costs N6,000 for the same amount. They criticized the hike, pointing out that the economic situation continues to deteriorate.

In January 2025, the NCC approved a request for tariff adjustments by telecom operators, following demands for cost-reflective pricing due to economic challenges.

The commission capped the increase at a maximum of 50% of existing tariffs—lower than the over 100% requested by some operators. However, the latest price hikes suggest that in some cases, the increase may have exceeded the approved limit.
