Sussex all-rounder James Coles has earned his maiden call-up to the England T20 squad for the upcoming series against India. The 22-year-old recently demonstrated his form with an unbeaten 224 in the County Championship against Glamorgan. During the previous T20 Blast season, Coles impressed by accumulating 397 runs alongside taking 10 wickets.
Harry Brook is set to lead the squad throughout the five-match series. Notably, Test opener Ben Duckett has been excluded from the selection. Marcus North, the team selector, highlighted that Coles is an exciting talent who warrants this opportunity. The squad size has been expanded to ensure operational flexibility given the proximity of the series to the preceding Tests against New Zealand.
The series is scheduled to run from 1 July at Chester-le-Street through 11 July in Southampton. The squad also marks the return of Jordan Cox, Sonny Baker, and Saqib Mahmood, while Brydon Carse and Jamie Overton remain sidelined due to injuries.
