A 42-year-old housewife identified as Maman Zainab collapsed and died during a Ramadan tafsir session at a mosque in Gawu, Abaji Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

A resident of Gawu, Ismail Bala, confirmed the incident on Thursday, March 13, 2025, stating that it occurred on Tuesday around 11:23 a.m. while she was attending the tafsir alongside other women at a mosque in the area.

Bala explained that the deceased left home in good health with three of her neighbors to attend the tafsir, a common practice during Ramadan.

He said the woman whispered to one of her neighbors during the session that she was feeling dizzy and had a severe headache. As she attempted to stand up and leave the mosque, she collapsed.

According to Bala, some of the women at the mosque rushed her to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

“The woman joined her neighbours to attend a Ramadan Tafseer just opposite her house when she collapsed inside the mosque and was taken to hospital at Gawu Babangida,” the witness said.

“Unfortunately, she gave up upon arriving at the hospital.”

He said the doctor, who conducted some observations on the woman, attributed her death to high blood pressure.

Bala added that her remains had been buried in accordance with Islamic rites.
