Ten Dead After Train Collides with Minibus Carrying Children from Nursery School

At least 10 people have died after a train collided with a minibus crossing railway tracks in Egypt.

One child is in critical condition, and 10 others are injured following the crash along the Qantara East-Bir al-Abd line near the Suez Canal on Thursday, March 13.

Photos from the scene show the mangled remains of a red minibus beside the railway tracks in Ismailia province, east of Cairo.

Reports from local media indicate that the minibus, which was carrying children returning home from nursery, had crossed the tracks at an unofficial crossing at the time of the accident.

All the injured were taken to East Qantara Central Hospital in Ismailia province, according to Egypt’s railway authority. One child remains in critical condition.

Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouly has ordered compensation payments of £1,520 to each of the victims’ families.

The national railway authority has warned drivers to avoid crossing tracks at unauthorized locations.
