Armed assailants, suspected to be herdsmen, have killed three people while they were returning from the Jato-Aka Market in Mshen community, located within the Nyihemba area of the Mbaikyor council wards in Benue State’s Kwande Local Government Area.

According to the youth leader of the ward, Igbawua Gandepuun, who made the disclosure on Sunday, April 13, the attack took place just a kilometer away from the Army Camp situated at the Government Secondary School in Anwase. The attackers also made off with the victims’ money and goods during the assault.

Gandepuun further revealed that in response to the killings, enraged youths from the community took the victims’ bodies to the nearby military camp, accusing the soldiers of failing to protect the citizens.

The victims were identified as Andeh Aondover, a housewife and petty trader, and Boki Tyodzua, a motorcycle rider. Both were ambushed and killed by suspected herders. The attackers reportedly took all of Tyodzua’s money and looted the items Andeh had purchased before killing them.

The youth leader also expressed concern over the safety of local farmers, stating that many had been unable to clear their farmland due to fear of attacks. He mentioned that those who had attempted to farm in the area had been killed by herders, with their bodies never recovered.
