FG Prepared to Welcome Deported Nigerians from US — NiDCOM Says as 3,690 Nigerians Face Deportation
The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission has announced that the Federal Government is prepared to receive Nigerians deported from the United States.
The commission’s Director of Media and Corporate Affairs, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, confirmed on Tuesday, Jan. 28, stating that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is overseeing the situation.
Balogun also revealed that the government has established an inter-agency committee to manage the process in the event of deportations.
He said: “The Federal Government has set up an inter-agency committee, comprising the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, NiDCOM, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and office of the National Security Adviser, NSA, should there be mass deportation of Nigerians from the US.”
However, NiDCOM spokesperson Abdur-Rahman Balogun emphasized that the commission was not aware of any Nigerians currently being processed for deportation.
Approximately 3,690 Nigerians in the United States are facing deportation as President Donald Trump intensifies his crackdown on illegal immigrants.
A list released by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in November 2024 indicated that 3,690 Nigerians were slated for deportation. With Trump back in office, the number is expected to rise.
