EPL: Supercomputer Forecasts Five Clubs to Secure Champions League Spots
The Opta SuperComputer has predicted which Premier League teams will secure Champions League spots for next season.
Five English clubs are guaranteed a place, and the race to qualify is extremely tight, with just four points separating Manchester City in third from Aston Villa in seventh.
City are behind leaders Liverpool and Arsenal, following a dramatic 2-1 win over Villa on Tuesday. As a result, Villa now face an uphill battle for a top-five finish, with Opta giving them just a 17.3% chance of Champions League qualification. Chelsea’s chances stand at 29.7%.
Newcastle has a 77.6% chance, while Nottingham Forest is at 80.1%, and City holds a 95.1% chance of qualifying.
City and Villa have played one more game than their rivals, with Nottingham Forest, Newcastle, and Chelsea having five games left to play.
Liverpool has already secured their Champions League spot for next season, and Arsenal is nearly certain to join them, holding a nine-point advantage over the sixth spot. This leaves City, Forest, Newcastle, Chelsea, and Villa fighting for the remaining three spots in the prestigious competition.
