Dele Momodu, a prominent figure in the African Democratic Congress, argues that the current public animosity directed toward President Bola Tinubu is historic. During a discussion regarding the President’s 2027 re-election prospects, Momodu asserted that Tinubu has lost his vital base of support in the North.
Speaking with broadcaster Rufai Oseni, the former presidential contender emphasized that securing victory requires meeting specific constitutional thresholds. According to Momodu, the President must capture at least 25 percent of the vote across a minimum of 25 states to remain in power. He noted that while reaching this goal could technically secure a win, the current political climate presents a massive hurdle.
Momodu highlighted that the President faces significant backlash from the public and even members of his own political party. He contrasted the 2027 outlook with the previous election, noting that Tinubu relied heavily on Northern voters last time. Momodu concluded that this support has vanished, and he predicted that voters in Osun state, where Tinubu has ancestral roots, would reject him once more.
