Chelsea Thrash Ten-Man Ajax 5–1 In Champions League, At Stamford Bridge
It was a night of dominance, flair, and ruthless finishing at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea cruised to a 5–1 victory over ten-man Ajax in a Champions League clash that lit up West London.
The visitors’ hopes crumbled early when Kenneth Taylor was sent off for a reckless challenge just 18 minutes in, and the Blues wasted no time capitalizing. Within sixty seconds, Marc Guiu opened the scoring, setting the tone for a one-sided contest that showcased Enzo Maresca’s side at their fluid, attacking best.

Moises Caicedo doubled Chelsea’s lead with a deflected strike before Wout Weghorst briefly gave Ajax a lifeline from the penalty spot.

But that proved a mere consolation as Enzo Fernández and 17-year-old sensation Estevão Willian both converted penalties in first-half stoppage time to make it 4–1 before the break.
The second half saw more of the same relentless pressure, electric wing play, and a fifth goal just minutes after the restart. Substitute Tyrique George, another product of Chelsea’s academy, fired home from distance after good buildup play from Caicedo and Romeo Lavia.

From then on, it was an exhibition. The youthful Blues side, featuring ten changes from Saturday’s 3–0 Premier League win over Nottingham Forest, continued to surge forward with confidence and flair. Estevão dazzled again, his tricks and directness repeatedly tormenting the Ajax defence. The Brazilian teenager nearly scored a second with a spectacular overhead kick that drew gasps from the crowd.
There was also a touching moment of reflection at the Bridge, as fans chanted “One Matthew Harding” to mark the 29th anniversary of the Chelsea legend’s passing.
By the final whistle, Chelsea had outclassed their Dutch opponents in every department. The result lifts the Blues to 11th in the new Champions League league-phase standings, level on six points with Newcastle United. The top eight teams after six matches will advance directly to the knockout stages, while those from ninth to 24th enter the play-offs.

Next up, Maresca’s men return to Stamford Bridge on Saturday for a Premier League fixture against Sunderland, before facing Wolves in the Carabao Cup and Tottenham Hotspur in a London derby. Their next European outing will be an away trip to Qarabag on November 5.
For Maresca, it was not just another win, it was a statement: a blend of academy promise, tactical authority, and the kind of attacking spectacle that hinted at a new era of belief under the Bridge lights.
