Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has alleged that the ruling establishment is orchestrating a campaign to block the African Democratic Congress (ADC) from participating in the 2027 general elections. The claim was made on Monday in Abuja via his aide, Phrank Shaibu.
Atiku argues that elements within the All Progressives Congress (APC) are using legal and political maneuvers to undermine the opposition. He contends that the ruling party is targeting the ADC because it serves as a viable alternative to their current leadership. According to Atiku, the government is misusing state institutions, pushing frivolous lawsuits, and applying backroom pressure to neutralize political rivals.
The former Vice President criticized the ruling party for prioritizing political survival over urgent national issues such as inflation, unemployment, and food insecurity. He stated that any move to bar the ADC would be a major threat to Nigeria’s democracy, noting that administrative power does not grant the right to dictate which parties voters can support.
Atiku urged the judiciary to reject political pressure and perform its duties with integrity. He also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security services, and international observers to protect the integrity of the upcoming elections. He concluded that no amount of intimidation would stop the public from supporting the ADC as a path toward national reform.
