University of Calabar Terminates Eight Employees and Disciplines Lecturer for Misconduct

The University of Calabar has dismissed eight employees and sanctioned a lecturer for offenses ranging from examination fraud to financial mismanagement.

The University of Calabar has terminated eight staff members and imposed a two-year promotion suspension on another faculty member. These disciplinary measures were finalized during the institution’s 174th Governing Council session. The infractions cited include examination irregularities, financial misappropriation, and property destruction.

According to an internal memo issued by the University Registrar, Dr. Icha Chukwuka, the council arrived at these decisions after evaluating multiple disciplinary reports. Prof. Emilia Oyira from Nursing Science was dismissed due to claims of examination malpractice. Furthermore, Ukachukwu Echezunachi Darlington, Akinrinade Opayemi Ogunluyi, Dr. Arum Priscilia Nchekwube, and Okoi Nyesam Eni were all fired for job abandonment.

Other dismissals include Joseph Edet Okon, who was accused of stealing armoured cables, and Eworo Valentine Ibor, who allegedly manipulated academic records. Additionally, Emmanuel Adariku was fired for the illicit withdrawal of funds from a trust account. Dr. Mathias Agba received a two-year promotion ban and a 50 percent salary deduction for negligence regarding an examination fraud investigation.

The university stated that the administration of Prof. Offiong Efanga Offiong maintains a firm commitment to integrity and academic excellence. These actions underscore the school’s policy against unethical behavior amid increasing national pressure to address systemic misconduct within tertiary education institutions.
