Olympic 800m gold medalist Keely Hodgkinson reclaimed her winning form at the London Diamond League. The 24-year-old athlete described the recent weeks as challenging, marking a return to the top of the podium after back-to-back second-place finishes in Stockholm and Eugene.
Despite recent setbacks, including a fall during her preparation for the Eugene event, Hodgkinson maintained control throughout the race at the London Stadium. Before a capacity crowd of 60,000, she finished with a time of one minute 56.21 seconds, successfully holding off Dutch competitor Femke Broeders-Bol.
Reflecting on the result, Hodgkinson noted that she is maintaining a focus on the present as she prepares for the European Championships. Her performance was lauded by British teammate Josh Kerr, who highlighted her ability to manage international pressure and succeed on home soil.
Other notable results included Matthew Hudson-Smith placing second in the 400m behind Rai Benjamin. In the 200m, Dina Asher-Smith finished fourth, while Kanyinsola Ajayi won the men’s 100m. Additionally, Swedish pole vaulter Armand Duplantis withdrew from competition as a precautionary measure due to a minor thigh injury.
