Twenty-five-year-old Erdoo Ugede is currently in police custody following the alleged murder of a two-month-old infant in Ankyoov, Ikyogbaji Council Ward, located in the Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State. The victim was reportedly the son of a woman identified as her husband’s mistress.
Reports indicate that Ugede, who has no children of her own, invited the mother and infant to reside in her home. Despite the tension surrounding the child’s paternity, family members and neighbors did not initially suspect any hostility. The situation turned tragic when the mother briefly left the house to visit a local market.
During the mother’s absence, Ugede allegedly attacked the baby with an object, resulting in the child’s death. Local residents heard the infant’s distress and discovered Ugede at the scene before she could escape. While local youths initially sought to retaliate against the suspect, other community members intervened to prevent violence and contacted the Aliade Police Division. Authorities successfully took the woman into custody. Attempts to reach DSP Udeme Edet, the state police spokesperson, for formal comments were unsuccessful.
