Chelsea have secured a deal to acquire attacking midfielder Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa for £117 million, successfully outmaneuvering Arsenal. The 23-year-old, capable of operating on the left flank or as an attacking midfielder, will arrive in London this Monday for a medical examination. He is anticipated to commit to a contract running through June 2032, which includes an option for an additional year.
According to journalist David Ornstein, Chelsea acted decisively to finalize the transfer to preempt a late attempt by Arsenal. The record-breaking £117 million fee narrowly exceeds the £116 million Manchester City previously spent on Elliot Anderson. Rogers reportedly expressed a strong desire to join the Blues following discussions with manager Xabi Alonso and looks forward to reuniting with his close friend Cole Palmer at Stamford Bridge.
Although Mikel Arteta and Arsenal were persistent in their pursuit of the England youth international, Chelsea’s rapid negotiations proved decisive. Arsenal will now shift their focus to alternative targets, such as Julian Alvarez, Junior Kroupi, or Bradley Barcola, the latter of whom is also linked to Liverpool. This high-profile signing aims to bolster Chelsea’s creative depth ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
