Three siblings traveling from Abuja toward Benue State were abducted by gunmen identified as suspected herdsmen along the Ogobia–Otukpo Road in the Ohimini Local Government Area. The incident occurred early Saturday as the family transported their late mother’s remains to Iklenyi, Okpokwu, for her final funeral rites.
Reports indicate the family faced a significant delay after their vehicle broke down during the trip. Despite the mechanical trouble, they insisted on continuing their journey early in the morning. Contact with the family was lost shortly after they passed between the Omutele and Ankpechi communities, where they were ambushed.
Witnesses state that the assailants kidnapped the three siblings and forcibly took their mother’s body into the bush. The situation has drawn urgent appeals for local security agencies to secure the release of the captives and recover the remains. Gabriel Adole, the Ohimini Local Government Area Chairman, confirmed he was investigating the report on-site. Meanwhile, Benue State Police spokesperson DSP Udeme Edet remained unavailable for comment regarding the abduction.
