On Monday in Abuja, the Federal Government and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) officially finalized an agreement regarding the 2009 renegotiation. This event serves as the conclusion to the ongoing dispute between the two parties.
SSANU National President, Comrade Mohammed Haruna Ibrahim, urged the government to act quickly to implement the terms of the deal. During the signing ceremony at the National Universities Commission, Ibrahim emphasized that this moment represents a historic achievement for the union.
The agreement was signed by Comrade Ibrahim representing SSANU, and Mahmud Yayale Ahmed, CFR, representing the federal administration. Ibrahim stated that this outcome is the result of persistent advocacy, disciplined leadership, and the patience of union members nationwide.
The new agreement addresses key demands including better service conditions, salary reviews, and adjustments to the CONTA structure. Looking ahead, the union leader stressed that the focus must now shift toward the immediate and full execution of the signed terms, calling for unity and vigilance among all members to ensure the government honors its commitments.
