Woman Arrested At Airport After Assaulting Child On Plane For Calling Her ‘Fat’ And ‘Miss Piggy’
Sanford Airport Police arrested a woman outside an airport gate after she allegedly struck a child multiple times on a plane.
According to the arrest report, the incident began when the child reportedly insulted Kristy Crampton by calling her “fat” and “Miss Piggy.”
Crampton was on Allegiant Flight 2885, traveling from Orlando-Sanford International Airport to Hagerstown, Maryland, on Monday, May 26. The family was returning home after a Disney World trip.
According to what witnesses told police, the child told Crampton she couldn’t fit in the airplane seat.
Witnesses reported that Kristy Crampton “began hitting the child with her fist” and also struck him on the head with a water bottle. The arrest report stated that she “slammed” the child’s head into the airplane window.
The report noted that the child tried to shield his head with his arms.
While airport officials have not disclosed the child’s age, Crampton reportedly told police that the child had been “very rude” and “disrespectful” during their Disney trip. After being called “fat” by the child, she said she took his phone away. She further claimed the child pushed her arm off the armrest twice, which led her to start “smacking” him, according to the report.
Police concluded that Crampton’s actions went beyond what could be considered “typical disciplinary actions.”
One witness said, “the woman was not correcting the child; she was abusing him.”
According to the report, the family declined to provide statements to police.
Kristy Crampton faces a charge of felony child abuse. She appeared before a Seminole County judge on Tuesday, May 27, and was granted a $10,000 bond.
