We Have Paid All Outstanding Allowances to Examiners – NECO
The National Examinations Council (NECO) has confirmed that it has paid the allowances of all 72,138 examiners engaged as ad-hoc staff for the 2024 School-based Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE).
This was revealed in a statement issued to the media in Abuja on Wednesday by the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations at NECO, Azeez Sani.
He stated that the Council began paying the examiners’ allowances on October 4, via bank transactions, to ensure proper reconciliation and avoid complications in the payment process.
Sani also urged the public to disregard rumors circulating on social media that NECO had intentionally withheld payment from the examiners involved in the 2024 SSCE Internal examination.
“NECO has completed the payment of the examiners’ allowances as of today, Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2024, according to the payment plan of the Council.
“Also, it was discovered in the process that some examiners submitted incorrect bank details, which the Council has reconciled with the affected examiners.
“Out of the 24 banks being used for the payment, all the banks have been cleared.
“It is therefore incorrect and false, as being speculated recently on social media, that the Council has deliberately refused to pay examiners engaged in the conduct of the 2024 SSCE Internal,” he said.
He further advised that anyone engaged by the Council should seek clarification or explanation directly from NECO on any issues they are uncertain about, rather than turning to the media for information.
“NECO wishes to reassure its esteemed examiners and other ad-hoc staff that the Council cherishes their invaluable contributions to the effective conduct of its examination and will therefore not take their remuneration for granted,” he said.
