WAEC Announces 2024 WASSCE Results for Private Candidates
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the results of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates in the 2024 second series, which was taken by 65,023 candidates.
In a statement signed by WAEC’s Acting Head of Public Affairs, Mrs. Moyosola Adesina, and released on Sunday, February 16, it was disclosed that 34,878 candidates, representing 53.64%, achieved credits and above in a minimum of five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.
Of this number, 16,886 (48.41%) were male candidates, while 17,992 (51.58%) were female candidates.
Adesina noted that out of the total number of candidates who sat for the examination, results for 62,354 candidates (95.90%) have been fully processed and released. However, results for 2,669 candidates (4.10%) are still being processed due to errors traceable to the candidates.
WAEC assured that efforts are underway to expedite the processing of these remaining results so that the affected candidates can receive their fully processed results soon.
The analysis of the candidates’ performance revealed that 43,923 candidates (67.55%) obtained credits and above in a minimum of five subjects, with or without English Language and/or Mathematics.
Additionally, Adesina stated that the results of 2,577 candidates (3.96%) have been withheld due to various allegations of examination malpractice.
“Candidates whose results were withheld are advised to visit the WAEC Notice of Examination Malpractice Portal at: https//waecinternational.org/complaints to make representations with regard to allegations bordering on examination malpractice,” Adesina said
The public affairs office added that all reported cases of examination malpractice will be thoroughly investigated. This includes reviewing any evidence obtained and considering representations submitted by candidates through the portal.
“These will be evaluated and reports presented to the appropriate Committee of the Council for determination. The Committee’s decision(s) will be communicated directly to the affected candidates.”
The council advised candidates to check their results by visiting www.waecdirect.org to confirm their status. They can then access the digital copies of their certificates, which have been released alongside the results, on the Digital Certificate platform at www.waec.org.
WAEC disclosed that the examination was conducted in Nigeria between Friday, October 25, 2024, and Friday, December 20, 2024. The coordination of examiners and marking of candidates’ scripts took place at five marking venues in Lagos, Ibadan, Benin, Enugu, and Kaduna from Wednesday, January 15, 2025, to Tuesday, February 4, 2025.
The statement added that a total of 3,327 examiners participated in the coordination and marking exercise.
Recall that the council had earlier announced that the WASSCE for private candidates, 2024–second series, would be conducted in two modes for the first time. This initiative aligns with emerging best practices and the council’s ongoing commitment to excellence.
“The examination diet was conducted in those two modes, the paper and pen option and by computer-based hybrid mode, and candidates sat for the examination based on the option they chose during registration,” she noted.
