Umahi Challenges Peter Obi Over Infrastructure Claims

Works Minister Dave Umahi dismissed Peter Obi’s comments on infrastructure, arguing that one does not need to be a presidential candidate to provide education on the subject.

Dave Umahi, the Minister of Works in Nigeria, recently responded to criticisms from Peter Obi, the Nigerian Democratic Congress presidential candidate. While visiting a road construction project on Sunday, Umahi stated that he does not require a presidential candidacy to inform the former governor of Anambra State about the realities of infrastructure development.

Defending the infrastructure initiatives led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Umahi emphasized his dedication to finishing these projects. He noted that he had previously invited Obi to discuss the progress of his work. Addressing the debate, Umahi remarked, “I asked my brother, His Excellency Peter Obi, for a debate on what I am doing. He said I am not the presidential candidate. I told him I am on the ballot. When President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is on the ballot, then I am on the ballot because I don’t want this project to stop.”

Umahi further suggested that the status of being a presidential candidate is not a significant achievement in itself. He expressed his belief that he possesses a higher standing in this context and criticized those who visit unfinished projects only to complain about their current state. The minister concluded by asserting his capability to provide professional guidance on infrastructure without needing a specific political title.
