Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed a desire to pardon protestors who directed offensive language toward him during recent youth-organized demonstrations. These protests, which emerged due to examination paper leaks, represented a notable political challenge for his administration.
The protests, organized by the online-based Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), spread across New Delhi and other urban centers. Following the release of videos showing demonstrators insulting the prime minister, many faced backlash from his supporters and legal scrutiny from authorities. Officials have requested that social media companies remove content they characterize as abusive or manipulated.
In a video shared on Instagram, 75-year-old Modi remarked that the language used at Jantar Mantar was inappropriate and extended to insults against his late mother. However, he stated that he chooses to forgive the individuals involved. He further suggested that the younger generation should receive guidance for their errors rather than facing police charges.
The demonstrations originally focused on examination integrity but expanded to encompass broader concerns regarding unemployment and government performance, eventually resulting in the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Modi has utilized Instagram to engage with younger audiences throughout this period, even as the CJP continues to maintain a substantial following on the platform.
