The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has moved the deadline for political parties to submit candidate lists for the 2027 gubernatorial and state legislative elections to August 11. Mr. Mohammed Haruna, the commission’s National Commissioner and chair of the Information and Voter Education Committee, confirmed the shift in a statement released in Abuja. The decision was prompted by multiple requests from political organizations seeking more time to finalize their submissions via the official portal, extending the original cutoff from August 8.
Furthermore, residents who requested replacements for missing or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) must download their copies by the end of August 9. This deadline ensures INEC can finalize voter statistics before the August 15 Osun state governorship election. Regarding the Osun poll, the commission adjusted previous collection schedules to address overcrowding at registration centers. Specific arrangements were also made to issue replacement cards for voters in the Odo-Otin and Ife Central local government areas after criminals stole items from distribution points. The commission clarified that the stolen cards are invalid for voting and affirmed its commitment to a transparent and inclusive election in Osun.
