Twin Brothers Found Dead in Georgia Mountains Hours After Missing Flight
The family of Qaadir and Naazir Lewis is rejecting investigators’ theory that their deaths were the result of a murder-suicide.
The 19-year-old twin brothers from Lawrenceville were found shot to death at the summit of Bell Mountain in Georgia on March 8, a day after missing their flight to Boston.
Their grieving uncle, Rahim Brawner, insists the inseparable twins would never harm each other, despite the Georgia Bureau of Investigation pursuing the case as a murder-suicide.
“They’re very protective of each other. They love each other,” Brawner told local WXIA-TV on Friday of the brothers. “I couldn’t imagine them hurting each other because I’ve never seen them get into a fistfight before.”
The brothers’ aunt, Yasmin Brawner, said the teens also had a “huge support system” who they knew would have have helped them if there were signs of trouble or su!cidal tendencies.
“We know them. They wouldn’t do anything like this,” Yasmine told the outlet. “To say they did this to each other? No. Something happened in those mountains, and we want answers.”
The family is still seeking answers on how Qaadir and Naazir traveled from the airport to Bell Mountain, emphasizing that the twins had never been there before and were not known to be hikers.
Their bodies were discovered by a hiker at approximately 11:05 a.m. on March 8, both with gunshot wounds.
The family of Qaadir and Naazir Lewis revealed that the brothers were found with their plane tickets still inside their wallets, further deepening doubts about the murder-suicide theory proposed by investigators.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) confirmed that autopsies have been completed, but officials are awaiting additional forensic tests before making a final ruling on the cause of death.
Authorities have not specified which brother they believe may have carried out the alleged murder-suicide.
