Troops Arrest Suspected Gunrunner, Recover Submachine Gun in Taraba
Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have apprehended a suspected gunrunner in Taraba State.
The suspect, identified as Alhaji Adamu Usman, was detained on January 13, 2025, in Gassol Local Government Area.
Speaking to journalists in Jalingo, the brigade’s acting spokesperson, Captain Oni Olubodunde, disclosed that items recovered from the suspect included a fabricated submachine gun.
The statement reads: “The operation, conducted on 13 January 2025, was based on credible intelligence. Troops launched a precise raid on the suspect’s residence in Maraban Gassol, located in Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State.
“During the search, they uncovered the illegally fabricated submachine gun, which is believed to be linked to arms trafficking activities.”
Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, commended the troops for their bravery and professionalism during the operation.
He reiterated the brigade’s dedication to sustaining peace and tackling the proliferation of illegal arms in Taraba State.
The commander also encouraged the public to provide credible information to security agencies, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts in addressing security challenges effectively.
