Tottenham Hotspur have secured a deal to acquire Portuguese midfielder Mateus Fernandes from West Ham for a total of 85 million pounds. The north London side successfully outbid Manchester United, who declined to meet the full guaranteed asking price for the 21-year-old.
Fernandes became a top priority for Tottenham after Newcastle United turned down an 80 million pound offer for Sandro Tonali. This addition continues a busy transfer period for Spurs, who have already finalized moves for Martin Dubravka, Marcos Senesi, Andy Robertson, and Jan Paul van Hecke.
While Manchester United and Paris St-Germain expressed interest in Fernandes, United opted against the transfer. The Old Trafford club cited valuation concerns and doubts regarding the player’s interest in joining their squad. Meanwhile, Tottenham’s successful negotiation for Fernandes fills their need for central midfield reinforcements following the unsuccessful pursuit of Tonali.
