TikTok Star Brenay Kennard Ordered To Pay $1.75 Million To Husband’s Ex-Wife Over Affair
Popular TikTok influencer Brenay Kennard has been ordered to pay $1.75 million in damages to her husband’s ex-wife, Akira Montague, after a North Carolina jury ruled that she was responsible for breaking up the couple’s marriage.
Montague, who had sought $3.5 million in compensation, filed a civil lawsuit against Kennard in May 2024 at the Durham County Superior Court. She accused the influencer of alienation of affection intentionally causing the loss of love in a marriage and criminal conversation, a legal term for having sexual relations with someone else’s spouse. Both claims are recognized in only a few U.S. states, including North Carolina.
Kennard, who boasts more than 3 million followers across TikTok and Instagram, often features her husband, Timothy Montague, in her content. According to court documents, Kennard began collaborating with Timothy on social media while he was still married to Akira, posting videos and photos some of which allegedly included Akira’s children without her consent.
The complaint further alleged that Kennard “flaunted” her relationship with Timothy online and attempted to justify their affair during a TikTok livestream.

After less than two hours of deliberation, jurors ruled in Akira’s favor on Monday. The court awarded her $1.5 million for alienation of affection and $250,000 for criminal conversation.
During the trial, Timothy testified that his marriage to Akira had broken down long before his relationship with Kennard, claiming the pair were “just like roommates” and had separated in 2021. Akira, however, disputed this, saying they continued to see each other regularly and maintained an intimate relationship.
Representing herself in court, Kennard argued she could not be blamed for ending a marriage that was “already falling apart,” calling the lawsuit “outrageous” and “all about money.” After the verdict, she posted a statement on social media saying, “The truth will always be the truth, and it’s easy to believe the lies when playing the victim card. [Akira] may have won the battle but not the war. God will have the final say.”

Timothy echoed Kennard’s sentiments, describing the verdict as “absolutely outrageous” and claiming that Akira’s legal team had “pulled the sympathy card.”
Akira’s attorney responded in a statement to People magazine, saying, “This case was not about vengeance. It was about accountability. The evidence overwhelmingly supported my client’s claim that Brenay Kennard alienated the affections of Akira’s husband and caused emotional harm to their children.”
