Detectives from the Lagos State Command have apprehended three young men in connection with the death of a woman they allegedly lured through Facebook in the Surulere area of the state.

Commissioner of Police, Olanrewaju Ishola, confirmed the arrests and disclosed that the suspects had extorted N300,000 from one of their victims prior to the murder.

According to Ishola, the suspects utilized social media platforms, including Facebook, to attract and exploit their victims. Further investigations are ongoing.

“It is a case of kidnapping. The case was reported at the Tactical Team of Area C. Consequently, three persons were arrested,” he said.

The Commissioner of Police, Olanrewaju Ishola, explained that the suspects operated by befriending their victims on social media platforms such as Facebook or Tinder.

“The suspects’ mode of operation is to lure their victims through a Tinder app on social media or Facebook where they will make the victim a friend and then ask them to come for a visit,” Ishola explained.

“In one particular case, the victim was lured to a particular house, and N300,000 ransom was collected from the victim and his phone was taken from him. My detectives swung into action and three suspects were arrested,” he added.

The suspects are currently in police custody while investigations continue.
