Men of the Anambra Joint Security Team successfully repelled an attack by armed criminals at a security checkpoint in Isuofia on Thursday evening, May 15.

The gunmen encountered officers and opened fire. In the clash, two of the attackers were neutralized. Unfortunately, one security operative was fatally wounded, and one of the team’s operational vehicles was set ablaze by the bandits.

Confirming the incident to reporters, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, said that during the gunfight, the superior firepower of the Joint Security Team forced the criminals to abandon one of their vehicles, a Toyota Sienna, before fleeing the scene.

Ikenga noted that the state Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, condemned the attack, describing it as a test of Ndi Anambra’s collective determination to support security forces in rooting out criminal elements. He assured that the Command is committed to apprehending those responsible for the attack.

He also added that additional armed operatives are currently searching nearby bushes to arrest the fleeing suspects.
